The shopping is also excellent, with luxury-brand outposts and funky specialty shops - there is truly something for everyone. National Harbor includes an eclectic mix of eateries, from seafood spots and steakhouses to ice cream and coffee shops. There are countless walking and biking trails that wind across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge into Old Town Alexandria, and on-site water taxis can shuttle you to Alexandria, Georgetown, the National Mall and even the Nationals' baseball stadium. Other popular events include the pet-friendly Yappy Hour, morning yoga, a Sunday morning farmers market and sunset concerts. In the mood for a movie? During the summer, National Harbor plays date-night movies on Thursdays and family flicks on Fridays. For those who enjoy water activities, rent a kayak, paddleboard or pedal boat and take in National Harbor from the water. There's certainly no opportunity to get bored. "With its numerous attractions and proximity to the nation's capital, National Harbor has become even more appealing to the boating community not only from the immediate area, but throughout the entire East Coast," says Bruce Wagner, Vice President of Coastal Properties. On-site amenities include a marina-exclusive bathhouse, laundry facility/lounge, WiFi, a fuel dock with gasoline and high-speed diesel pumps, 24-hour security with locked gates and concierge services. The marina can accommodate vessels up to 250 feet with a dock depth of 9 feet. The 76-slip National Harbor Marina is managed by Island Global Yachting. And because of the repeal of the Maryland law requiring any vessel larger than 79 feet to have a licensed bay pilot aboard, superyachts can now navigate up the Potomac River pilot-free. The marina is part of the 350-acre National Harbor property, which has more than 150 diverse shops and boutiques, 30 dining locations and an iconic Ferris wheel, the Capital Wheel. Harris, however, reassures the public, “We don’t ever want this to become the norm.NATIONAL HARBOR MARINA is located five miles south of Washington D.C., along the banks of the Potomac River. A focus on clarifying that the girls are runaways as opposed to unbeknownst missing girls, diverts from the core issue-there are black and brown teenage girls missing at an alarming rate. While Harris claims that the alarming number of missing black and Latinx girls had not increased, but just became more visible due to a social media initiative brought on by D.C.’s police department, there still is apprehension. They require some kind of payment, and often it’s for some kind of sexual favor.” We have just seen and heard from so many young people that these arrangements are not friendly. But there are people who prey on young people. The founder of the Sasha Bruce Youth Network claims, “There’s a view out there that this is a friendly kind of situation. “Often times, these girls are repeat runaways,” Harris stated, “So if we really want to help solve this problem and bring down the numbers, we have to break the cycle of young people, especially young girls, who repeatedly run away from home.”Īn advocate for the homeless youth, Deborah Shore, deemed it necessary to shed light on the reality of making this claim without relaying the dangers of a runaway child’s situation. The series also includes increasing the funding allocated to organizations that interact with vulnerable teens and updating a city website, including more information on each of the missing children.Īlthough they are making strides in the right direction, a spokesperson for the mayor, Kevin Harris, insists on supporting the notion that a majority of the children are runaways. The first initiative involves a task force that will “determine what social services teenagers who runaway need.” In addition, the city will designate a larger number of its police force to find the missing children.
